Actually, this reminds me of the storms you see over the plains near the Rocky mountains. I lived in Denver, CO for a few years and was always awed (and a bit frightened) at what looked like a tornado coming towards me. Finally, my roommate (from the midwest near Chicago) showed me the difference between the two. "Don't worry, "she explained. "You are safe from a tornado if you can still see it. It's when you lose sight of it that you need to take cover."
